Special feature : Before Nagasone Kotetsu Nyudo Okisato became a sword smith, he had been working as an armorer.
During Edo period, the demand for Kabuto decreased so he moved to Edo and studied sword making under Kaneshige of Horyuji School.
Because he was a successful and skillful armorer already at the time, he was also passionate on studying and making fine Jigane steel Katana.
Kotetsu has been producing sword for 21 years from Meireki 2nd year to Enpo 5th year(1956-1677).
The sword is close to Kaneshige with deep Nioiguchi Gunome Midare Hamon.
Many of his works are Jyuzuba(rosary beads shape) Hamon containing old neil and Kabuto to add strength and brightness to the vlade.
He also had exchange with Yamano Ka Uemon who was an official responsible for trying sword.
Therefore, many of his sword was used for cutting test at the time.
I have seen a Kotetsu owned by 2nd generation Japanese American at Auction in London.
That Kotetsu had wonderful Jigane with Bright ha. It was outstanding work.
This sword has fine signature but it may have been made by famos sword smith Taira Naomitsu.
In any case, it is excellent cutting test Katana.
It is said that commander of Shinsengumi(Shogunate police) Kondo Isamu cherished Gimei Kotetsu Katana which has altered the Katana of Kiyomaro.
The genuineness is not known.
