This Bishu Osafune Morimitsu belongs to Jojo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki: Gold Double Foiled Habaki
Blade length : 39.09 cm or 15.38 inches.
Sori : 0.45 cm or 0.17 inches.
Mekugi : 3
Width at the hamachi : 2.6 cm or 1.02 inches.
Kasane : 0.58 cm or 0.22 inches.
Era : Muromachi period Circa Oei (595 years ago)
Shape : It is rather small size Hirauchi shape Wakizashi. There is Bo-Hi and Soe-Hi(thinner groove engraved next to the Bo-Hi) engraved on both sides of the blade.
Jitetsu : Itame Hada and mixture of Nashime Hada well grained with Jinie attached. There is Chikei work appearing.
Hamon : Konie Deki Choji MIdare and Gunome Midare mixed.
Special feature : Bishu Osafune Morimitsu was a son of Moromitsu. He was named Shurinosuke. He was the head of the Oue Bizen with other active swordsmith such as Yasumitsu and Moromitsu. Morimitsu was expecially famous of that all. He has been active from early Muromachi period which is why it is called Ouei(early Muromachi Period) Bizen.
This piece has fantastic well grained Jigane with fine jinie attached. The Chikei work is undulating in the ha and Utsuri work is appearing as well.
The hamon has mixture sharpness. It is Choji midare with sharp end boshi that resembles the wick of the candle. We recommend you this excellent work.
