Wakizashi

Wakizashi : Mumei (Tsunahiro) 2nd generation

Wakizashi in Shirasaya, with Koshirae. (NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature : Mumei (Tsunahiro) 2nd generation

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku Jyo saku and regular saku)
This Mumei (Tsunahiro) belongs to Jyojyo saku ranking.

The blade was polished
Habaki : Silver Single Foiled Habaki
Blade length : 37cm or 14.56 inches.
Sori : 0.8 cm or 0.31 inches.
Mekugi : 1 (One plugged with lead)
Width at the hamachi : 3.1 cm or .22 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.64 cm or 1.03 inches.
Kasane : 0.61 cm or 0.24 inches.
Era : Muromachi Period
Shape : It is wide mitsu-mune style. On the surface, single streak of Hi is engraved and double streaks of Hi is engraved on the back.
The Nakago tang is Tanagobara(Japanese bitterling like tang.) with much curve towards the tip. It is nice Sunnobi Tanto shape.
Jitetsu : Koitame hada well grained with Jinie attached. Chikei work is well attached and the ha is “moist” Soshu Jigane.
Hamon : Nie deki with big wave Gunome Midare starting from the Hamachi.
The hamon becomes calm gunome towards the top. Ashi is attached. Boshi is sharp turnback.

Special feature : This work is mumei but the attribution is accurate from the condition of nakago, mitsu-mune, and Soshu style strong jigane.
Soshu jyu Tsunahiro followed skill of Hiromasa. He moved to Odawa and has focused on the production of Soshuden work.
The first generation was active in Tenmon, second generation was active in Eisho and third was active in Bunroku period.
This work leaves the feeling of Nambokucho period and it is difficult but it is likely to be second generation work.
From the nice Jigane and soshuden hamon, it is refined work the resembles Shizu, Masamune work.

Koshirae : Aikuchi Koshirae It is compact koshirae.
Fuchikashira : Shakudo Muji
Saya : Brown saya with cloud pattern painted in lacquer and silver stripe pattern painted as well.
Menuki : Shakudo plate with men design engraved and inlaid with gold. Mogarashi style Menuki.
Kurigata : Castle design engraved
