Wakizashi: Dewa Daijo Fujiwara Kunimichi

Wakizashi in Shirasaya(NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature : Dewa Daijo Fujiwara Kunimichi

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saku)
The blade was polished
Habaki : Gold foiled single Gonseki habaki.
Blade length : 39.69 cm or 15.62 inches.
Sori : 0.9 cm or 0.35 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.86 cm or 1.12 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.71 cm or 1.06 inches.
Kasane : 0.68 cm or 0.26 inches.
Era : Edo period around Kanei era.
Shape : Shobu Tsukuri.
Jitetsu : Itame Hada well grained with Jinie attach. It is beautiful Jigane.
Hamon : Nie Deki Gunome Midare with Notare. In Ha, there are Sunagashi and Kinsuji.
Boshi is Midare komi Yakisage style.

Special feature : Born around 1576 in Yamato province, Kunimichi
the First learned under Iga (No) Kami Kinmichi and Horikawa Kunihiro.
It is thought that Kunimichi was designated Dewa Daijo in 1614 to 1615.
His latest work was 1657. Most of his swords show fascinating hamon with strong Nie and Nioi.
Dewa Daijyo Fujiwara Kunimichi was a top ranking student of the Kunihiro.
He made a lot of swords during his long life.
He was making swords from Keicyo era to Kanbun era for the first stage,
he named Kunimichi and got the tytle of Dewa Daijyo.
Seki school Kanemichi was a master of the Kunimichi, kanemichi, Masatoshi and so on.
Special feature of this school is Kissaki hamon which is called Mishina Boshi notare anf turns back hamon.
Generally Jigane of the Kunimichi is Zanguri jigane which is rough Itame hada
flow to masa and visible to see the texture like Sosyu jigane.
But sometimes we can see this kind of fine jigane like Oosaka jigane.
This sword looks like Ooshizu or masamune style.
There are many sunagashi and long kinsuji scatter anso thick nioikuchi.
This elegantly-proportioned wakizashi shows distinctive features of his workmanship.
Especially the texture of jitetsu outstrips one of his masters Horikawa Kunihiro’s.
It is fantastic work that doesn't come get tired.
Probably he imitated Masamune. We strongly recommend this sword.
