Wakizashi: Yamasiro Daijyo Minamoto Kunishige

Wakizashi in Koshirae (NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature : Yamasiro Daijyo Minamoto Kunishige.

The blade was polished.
Habaki:Silver single habaki.
Blade length : 40.8 cm or 16.06inches.
Sori : 0.6cm or 0.24inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.81 cm or 1.1inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.01cm or 0.79inches.
Kasane : 0.49 cm or 0.19inches.
Era :Edo period Kanbun era.
Shape : The blade is regular size with small sori
and longer kissaki which is called Kanbun style.
Jitetsu :Koitame had well grained with jinie attach nice texture.
Hamon : Niedeki suguha and noter with thick nioikuchi and in Hamon,
many sunagashi and kinsuji work.
Boshi is thick nioikuchi round shape and Yakisage style.

Special feature : Yamashiro Daijyo Kunishige is the brother
of Otsuki Yogoro Kunishige. Because he was active at Edo Mizuta.
Mizuta school is a sword smith group that has moved to Bingo
at Muromachi Period. The school eventually devided to
Dai Ygoro Kunishige and KOuno school.
Both are Nie-Deki with deep nioiguchi. It is suguha style Notare
and there is mixture of gunome midare hamon.
Both are Soshuden style active work.

Koshirae :
Tsuba : Shakudo mokko plate with rim shakudo. The rims is
Fuchikashira :Shakudo plate with flower design engraved. Mid Edo Period.
Saya : Black Roiro Saya
Menuki : Shakudo plate with Shi-Shi design engraved and inlayed with gold. Early Edo Period.
Kozuka : Shakudo nanakoji plate with tree design engraved and inlayed with petal gold. Mid Edo Period.
