Meiji 33 year 11 Gatsuhi. (1871) November 11th.

The blade was polished.
Blade length : 70 cm or 27.55 inches.
Sori : 1.2 cm or 0.47 inches.
Mekugi:2
Width at the hamachi : 2.69 cm or 1.05 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.8 cm or 0.7 inches.
Kasane : 0.65 cm or 0.25 inches.
Era :Meiji period.
Shape : Both sides of the blade has Bo-hi is engraved.
Jitetsu : Koitame hada well grained with jinie attach
Hamon : Koniedeki gunome Choji midare hamon with ashi scatter.
Boshi is midarekomi style.

Special feature : Gassan Sadakazu was born at Oumi province Tenpo 2nd November.
He was a adopted son of Gassan Sadayoshi.
He was very skillful sword maker and also well known engraved skill for a sword.
He spent bitter experience of Haitorei (Japanese government issue the law that is not permitted to make Japanese swords and obliged to abolish his or their business for making swords).
After exactly solved the law, he made many swords for demanding Japanese army and navy's officers demanding.
He made Soshu den, Bizen den, Yamato Den, Yamashiro, and mini den every kind of school. Also Ayasugi jigane which is Gassan's traditional school.
Unfortunately he passed away Taisho 7th November 83 years of age and succeeded this school to his son Gassan Sadakatsu. The 2nd generation Gassan Sadakazu became Ningen Kokuho (human national treasure).
This sword looks like Aoe school Nanbokucho period. The condition is very good both Jigane and Hamon.

Koshirae : The Koshirae is good condition without Kizu and flow.
Tsuba : On the shakudo nanako plate, Ume trees are engraved with gold color: Kokinko school.
Fuchikashira :On the shakudo nanako plate, Ume trees are engraved with gold color.
Saya : Black roiro saya.
Menuki : On the shakudo plate, Japanese wisteria is engraved with gold color.

Historical background: Japanese - Sino war occurred 1894.
