Generally Fukuoka Ichimonji just mentioned horizontal line on the tang which means Ichi, the meaning in english is ‘one’.
But Yoshioka Ichimonji generally mentioned whole signature on the tang. For instance, Ichi Bizen Kuni Ju Sukemitsu and so on.
Some blades of Yoshioka and Fukuoka Ichimonji became national treaure swords.
I'd like to introduce you some episodes of Yoshioka Ichimonji.
Iemitsu, the Shogun of Tokugawa granted Katana ‘Ichi Bishu Kuni Yoshioka Ju Sakon Shogen Sukemitsu’ to to Abe Bungo Kami Tadaaki for his courage crossing the river Sumida by horse riding when the big flood has outbreaked.
Another famous Naginata ‘Ichi Bishu Kuni Yoshioka Ju Sakon Syogen Sukemitsu’ has handed down from Daimyo Maeda clan.
Both swords became national tresure.
This blade has been cut shortend even though the shape is elegant and marvelous Jigane with active Midare Utsuri appear on surface and also nice Mystic Hamon. Shinogi-ji is not engraved so the texture with Koto Kamakura period style can be seen very well.
