Katana in Shirasaya(NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature : Mumei (Mihara)

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saku)
This Mumei(Mihara) belongs to Jyosaku ranking.

The blade was polished.
Blade length : 80.5 cm or 31.69inches.
Sori : 1.5 cm or 0.59inches.
Mekugi : 3
Width at the hamachi : 2.83cm or 1.11inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.5cm or 0.59inches.
Kasane : 0.77cm or 0.3inches.
Era : Early Muromachi period
Shape: It is O-Suriage mumei with regular width and thickness.
There is worn Yawata Daibosatsu engraved on front side of the blade and Bonji engraved on the back.
Jitetsu :Itame hada well grained with jinie attached. There is utsuri appearing on the ha.
Hamon : Suguha style with mixture of notare hamon. Boshi is round turn back.

Special feature : Mihara is a sword smith of BIngo province.
From Kamakura period to Nanbokucho period, the school is called Komihara and from early Muromachi period it is called Komihara and Sue-Mihara in late Muromachi period.
Many Mihara or Ko-MIhara is similar to Aoe work. Some even has close jigane to Chirimen(wrinkled hada pattern) hada.
This katana has refined jigane that resembles Aoe.
