Katana : Mumei(unsigned) attributed as Tegai school

Katana in Shirasaya (31th NBTHK Juyo paper)

Signature : Mumei(unsigned) attributed as Tegai school.

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku Jyo saku and regular saku)
This sword belongs to Saijyo Saku ranking.

Koto: Yamato school
The blade was polished by highest ranking polisher.
Habaki : Double gold foiled habaki.
Blade length : 71 cm or 27.95 inches.
Sori : 1.2 cm or 0.472inches.
Mekugi : 2 
Width at the hamachi : 3.01cm or 1.18 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.01cm or 0.79 inches.
Kasane : 0.75cm or 0.29 inches.
Era : Middle to late Kamakura period Bunpo era 1317.
Shape : The blade is oosuriage mumei(cut shortened) attributed as Tegai school.
The blade is rather wide and thick with bigger shinogi and rather longer kissaki.
Jigane : Itame hada well grained with jinie attach and chikei strongly. On the Ji, weak Utsuri appear.
Hamon : Suguha rather tightly with Uchinoke, hotsure, and double hamon and also sunagashi which works typical Tegai school.

Special feature : The relation of the Nara Temples and Yamato sword makers are close rinkage
and main gate of the west Todaiji temple which is called Tengaimon area was made many swords for the armed priest by sword makers.
These sword makers were served as vassal of the Todaiji temple.
The founder of the Tegai school was Kanenaga started from Syoo era or more old (1288)
The tegai school continued to Late Muromachi and also Edo period.
This sword probably was made around Bunpo era 1317.
These sword makers (smith) tried to do the best for making swords for the armed priests.
The belief is strong above all. So Yamato sword make us feel the high atmosphere.
This sword is healthy and wonderful texture.
