Tanto in Shirasaya(NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature : Mumei (Uda)

The blade was polished.
Habaki: put gold color paper on the single copper.
Blade length : 28cm or 11.02 inches.
Sori : 0cm or 0 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.6cm or 1.02 inches.
Kasane : 0.55cm or 0.21 inches.
Era : Middle Muromachi period.
Shape : Wide and thick, healthy Tanto.
Jitetsu : Itame Hada well grained with Jinie attached. There are Sirake Utsuri.
Hamon : Nie Deki Suguha with Notare Ha and Uchinoke mixed.
In Ha, there are Ko-Ashi. Boshi is round Hakihake style.

Special feature : Uda school started from Late Kamakura period.
Father swordsmith named Kunimitsu was from Uda ,(present Nara prefecture)
and moved to Ecchu (present Nigata prefecture). They prospered in Nanbokucho period.
Same signature has been succeded to many generations until Muromachi late period.
This blade was estimated middle Muromachi Uda work. There are nice Utsuri.
The Tanto is in good condition.
