Special feature: On round iron tsuba, sailing boat on wave is engraved openwork.
Yagyu Tsuba is a variation of Owari Tsuba first created by Yagyu Toshikane. It is said that secrets of Yagyu marcial arts are the motif of Yagyu Tsuba. This ‘sailing boat on wave’ motif was from an idea of Tokugawa Mitutomo, the second Daimyo of Owari domain and also the student of Yagyu Toshikane.
Yagyu Tsuba are very rare. It is difficult to find in Japanese sword market nowadays.
