Wakizashi in Shirasaya(NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Paper)

Signature : Mumei (Aoe)

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saki)This sword belongs to Saijo saku ranking.
The blade was polished
Habaki :gold foiled double habaki.
Blade length : 49.8 cm or 19.60 inches.
Sori : 0.8 cm or 0.31 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.60 cm or 1.02 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.98 cm or 0.77 inches.
Kasane : 0.51 cm or 0.20 inches.
Era : Late Kamakura period.
Shape : Osuriage Mumei Wakizashi. Bo-Hi and Soe-Hi are on both side.
This is elegant shape Wakizashi.
Jitetsu : Ko-Itane Hada and Mokume Hada mix.
Hamon : Suguha with Ko-Ashi. Boshi is round Yakizume style.
In Ha, there are Yo.

Special feature : Aoe school has flourished for a long time from Heian period.
From the Boshi, this Wakizashi was made around late Kamakura period.
Generally Aoe school has shukumen(winkle) hada surface with slight utsuri seen.
Mostly the hamon is suguha style.
This blade is typical Aoe style. The Jigane and Hamon are beautiful.
This is brilliant blade.
