Katana Masterpiece Wakizashi

Dai : Katana in Shirasaya with Koshirae(NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper)

Signature : Tairyu-sai Munehiro(Sokan) Tsukuru kore.
Genji enen 6 gatsu hi (June 1864 or 1865)

The blade was polished.
Habaki : gold foiled Habaki
Blade length : 71.3 cm or 28.07 inches.
Sori : 1.8 cm or 0.70 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 3.23 cm or 1.27 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.33 cm or 0.91 inches.
Kasane : 0.73 cm or 0.28 inches.
Era : Late Edo period.
Shape : wide and thick with Sori, this is healthy blade. Kissaki is long.
Jitetsu : Koitame hada well grained with Jinie attach. Mujifu.
Hamon : Nie deki Ko-gunome midare. there are Ashi and soft Nioikuchi.
It looks like Yoshii Bizen blade.

Koshirae :
Tsuba : Kiku flower shape iron Tsuba.
Fuchikashira : On the shakudo nanako, Torii(Shrine gate) and cherry blossom are engraved with gold color.
Saya : Shunuri saya.(red color)
Menuki : On the Shakudo with gold and silver color.
Kogai : On the Shakudo nanako, person and blossom are engraved with gold color.

Signature : Tair Munehiro(Sokan) Tsukuru kore.
Ansei 6 nen 4 gatsu hi (April 1859)

The blade was polished.
Habaki : gold foiled Habaki
Blade length : 31.6 cm or 12.44 inches.
Sori : 0.2 cm or 0.07 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.82 cm or 1.11 inches.
Kasane : 0.62 cm or 0.24 inches.
Era : Late Edo period.
Shape : wide and thick Hirauchi-wakizashi.
Jitetsu : Koitame hada well grained with Jinie attach. Mujifu.
Hamon : Ko-niedeki Ko-gunome Midare, deep Nioikuchi. There are Ashi.

Koshirae :
Tsuba : Mokko shape iron Tsuba with open work.
Fuchikashira : On the Shakudo nanako, fish and wolf are engraved with gold color.
Saya : Shunuri saya.(red color)
Menuki : On the shakudo plate, person is engraved with gold color.

Special feature : Tairyu-sai Munehiro(Sokan) was born at Hurukawa
province near the river Abukuma.
He moved to Edo Fukagawa Hakozaki city and studied from Koyama Munetsuggu.
Therefore his first stage of the blade is very close to his master.
After that he made swords as a purpose cut well sword.
So his most of the blade is Kogunome midare with a lot of Ashi.
Some swords has Utsuri appear.
He is good at also engraving.
This Daisho is very nice quality both Jigane and Hamon without kizu and flow.
