Katana

Katana : (Kinzogan gold inlay by Honami family) attributed as Rai Kunizane.

Katana in Shirasaya, with Koshirae, in box (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper)

Signature : (Kinzogan gold inlay by Honami family) attributed as Rai Kunizane.

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku Jyo saku and regular saku)
This attributed as Rai Kunizane belongs to jyo-jyo saku ranking.

Sayagaki was done by Tanobe sensei.
Jyosyu Rai Kunizane. The blade is oosuriage mumei with 3 characters gold inlay which was done by Honami family.
Probably Honami Ko on.
The blade is typical Rai Kunizane and admit nice sword.Length is 71.21 cm.

Koto : Jyosaku ranking : Yamashiro.
The blade was polished
Habaki : Gold foiled double habaki.
Blade length : 71.21 cm or 28.03 inches.
Sori : 1.5 cm or 0.59 inches.
Mekugi : 3
Width at the hamachi : 2.94 cm or 1.15 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.18 cm or .85 inches.
Kasane : 0.54 cm or 0.21 inches.
Era : Nannbokucho period.
Shape : The blade is oosuriage mumei(vut shortened) with gold inlay(Honami family). On both sides of the blade has Bo-Hi engraved.
Jitetsu : Koitame had and momokume had well grained with jinie attach fine texture.
On the Jigane, clear Utsuri appear.
Hamon : Konie deck and Kogunome midair and Cyoji midair mixed.
In Hamon, many sunagashi and kinsuji work.
Boshi is double round shape and turns back.

Special feature : Rai Kunizane is said that he was a son of the Rai Kunitoshi.
There are few signed swords except Wakizashi and tanto.
On the beautiful texture, clear Utsuri appear and nice active elegant hamon
The blade is similar with his father's Rai Kunitoshi.
Until now 12 Jyuyo token passed Jyuyo Token.
This sword is as same ranking as Jyuyo token class.

Koshirae :
Tsuba : On the round shaped Shakudo Tsuba, flowers are engraved
Fuchikashira : On the shakudo nanako plate, bamboo hat is engraved with gold color iroe.
Saya : Black roiro saya.
Menuki : Shakudou plate with the design of mantis engraved.
Kozuka : Shakudou nanakoji blade, some kind of pattern engraved and inlayed with gold.
Kogai : Shakudou nanakoji blade, plum flower and broom are engraved and inlayed with gold.
Kogatana : Mumei

What makes this katana special is that there is a description of the past owner of the katana.

Toda Ujitaka is Ujimasa’s son. He was the mayor of Ogaki domain and count. Toda Ujihide is the son Matsudaira Teruna.He graduated Tokyo Teikoku University(current Tokyo University) Faculty of politics. He was Bachelor of law.
