Katana : Mumei (Enju)

Katana in Shirasaya with Koshirae (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Paper)

Signature : Mumei (Enju)

The blade was polished.
Habaki: Gold Double Foiled Habaki
Blade length : 71.0 cm or 27.95 inches.
Sori : 1.6 cm or 0.62 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.84 cm or 1.19 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.78 cm or 0.7 inches.
Kasane : 0.63 cm or 0.24 inches.
Era : period.
Shape : It is O-suriage mumei with regular width and thickness.
There is deep sori with rather long kissaki. It is nice shape katana.
Jitetsu :Koitame hada with mixture of mokume hada.
Jinie is well attached and thin chikei works could be observed.
There is faint utsuri.
Hamon : Nie structure suguha style with Ashi, Yo well attached. Boushi is big round end.

Special feature : The founder of Enjyu school is Taro Kunimura
and it is commonly accepted that he was a son-in-law of Rai Kuniyuki.
The school has sword smith such as Kunitomo, Kuniyoshi,
Kuniyashi and Kunitoki and has been successful from late Kamakura period to Nanbokucho period in Higo Kikuchi. His style is similar to Rai
school. This katana has nice jigane and it reminds of Rai Kunitoshi.
The characteristic of Rai school is strongly express on the katana
and much activities could be seen in the ha.

Koshirae
Tsuba: Round shape iron tsuba with Tomoe crest engraved
in open work. It is nice iron texture jigane. It is from early Edo period
Fuchigashira: Shakudo Nanako-ji with chrysanthemum design
engraved and inlayed with gold.
Menuki; Shakudo plate with chrysanthemum design engraved
and inalyed with gold.
Kogai: Shakudo Nanako-ji plated with lobster design engraved
and inlayed with gold.
Saya: Dark brown and black Kawari unique style tsuba.
