Katana: Mumei (Niou)

Katana in Shirasaya(NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Paper)

The blade was polished.
Habaki:Gold double foiled habaki
Blade length : 67.4cm or 26.5 inches.
Sori : 1.6cm or 0.62 inches.
Mekugi: 3
Width at the hamachi : 2.96 cm or 1.165inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.125cm or 0.84inches.
Kasane : 0.6 cm or 0.24 inches.
Weight of only blade: 715g
Era : Nanbokucho period.
Shape : It is oosuriage mumei sword with normal width
and thickness. It is deep sori sword with long kissaki.
Jitetsu: Koitame hada well grained with jinie attached.
It is beautiful jigane with some clear white mist like utsuri.
Hamon : Nie vase suguha with koashi attached, The ha is smooth as if it is moister.
Boushi is wound end hakikake style.

Special feature : Niou school was originated from Kiyotsuna of late Kamakura period.
It is a school that continues through Muromachi period. The Niou in Muromachi period is called Sue Niou.
This katana is from Nanbokucho period. The jigane is soft and suguha style with ashi attached.
There are some loose parts but it is not serious if thought about the age. It is in nice shape.
There are small and minor kizu but it would not be a problem when observing.
