Katana in Shirasaya (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper)

Signature : Mumei(Shikkake)

The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gold Single Foiled Habaki
Blade length : 70.3 cm or 27.68 inches.
Sori : 2.2 cm or 0.87 inches.
Mekugi : 3
Width at the hamachi : 2.93 cm or 1.15 inches.
Kasane : 0.78 cm or 0.3 inches.
Era : Nanbokucho period.
Shape : It is wide and thick regular sori Nagamaki Naoshi piece.
It is O-Suriage mumei nice shape katana.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with jinie attached.
There are some masa parts.
Hamon : Nie deki suguha with mixture of kogunome.
There is abundant Koashi, yo, sunagashi and kinsuji activitiy.
The hamon is soft like smoke.

Special feature : Yamato school is divided into Senjyuin, Taima, Hosho, Tegai, Shikkake.
This piece is attributed as Shikkake from the Kogunome midare hamon.
Originated from Norinaga, the shikake school continued from Kamakura period to Nanbokucho period.
Generally Yamato pieces has high shinogi lines with distinct characteristics in each style.
It is suguha with clear gunome midare . Sunagashi and kinsuji works are active in the ha.
Sharpness is remaining as it is remake of Nagamaki.
There is less early Koto Masterpieces so we recommend this katana.
There are some ware at the shinogi.
Nevertheless, we recommend this rare Shikkake piece.
