Katana in Shirasaya with Koshirae (NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature : Shigemitsu

The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gold foiled single habaki.
Blade length : 67.2 cm or 26.45 inches.
Sori : 0.8 cm or 0.31 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.76 cm or 1.08 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.68 cm or 0.66 inches.
Kasane : 0.61 cm or 0.24 inches.
Era : Muromachi period circa Ouei 1393
Shape : It is slightly thin than normal blade. it is shallow sori katana.
Jitetsu : Koitame hada well grained with jinie attached. there is mixture of komokume wood texture with jinie attached. There are clear midare utsuri.
Hamon : Konie base shoji midare mix with ashi is well attached.
It is irregular line boshi.

Special feature : Konie ground with mixture of shoji midare ashi is well attached. Boushi is irregular line.
The history could be traced down from Nanbokucho period to Ouei, Eisho period.
The two major smithes of Ouei Bizen is Morimitsu and Yasumitsu and there Shigemitsu especially Shigemitsu is active.
The jitetsu is different of that of Morimitsu. It is koitame hada well grained with komokume hada.
It is well grainedsoft touch piece. The utsuri is beautiful and the hamon is shoji mix gorgeous style hamon.

Historical background: Battle of Ounin. At Ouei 6th year(year 1399).
The provincial military governor Ouchi Yoshiharu has challenged battle to Muromachi shogunate and was defeated.

Koshirae:
Tsuba: Oval shape iron tsuba. Round rim.
Fuchigashira: Shibuichi plate with butterfly and chrysanthemum engraved and inlayed with gold.
Saya: Kawarinuri saya
Menuki: Shakudou base with chrysanthemum design engraved and inlayed with gold.
