Tanto: Kanekatsu

Tanto in Koshirae (Hozon Paper)

Signature: Kanekatsu.

The blade was polished.
habaki:Gold foiled and silver double habaki.
Blade length : 28.4cm or 11.19inches.
Sori : 0.4cm or 0.16inches.
Mekugi: 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.68cm or  1.06inches.
Kasane : 0.49cm or 0.19inches.
Era : Late Muromachi period.
Shape : It is rather firm and thick shape with sori at the top part. There are hi engraved in both front and back side of the blade.
Jitetsu : Itame hada with jinie attached. There is straight shape shirake utsuri(fog texture)
Hamon : Nie based Gunome mix with boshi round shape jizo style. There is active streaks of sunagashi and kinsuji.

Special feature : Kanekatsu is a swordsmith of Mino province and has been successful during the late Muromachi era. Generally, Sueseki pieces have rough jigane but this piece is in great condition. There are
many ha. It is made prior to cut cleanly.

Koshirae :
Saya : Black roiro saya
Menuki : Bee and grasshopper is engraved in bronze base.
Kozuka : Shibuichi base with a design of dragon engraved and Inlayed with gold. Mount Fuji is designed on the backside.
