Kaei 7 Sai 8 gatsu hi.
The blade was made by Cyounsai Tsunatoshi at Kaei 7th August (Ansei 1st year) 1854.
Shinshinto:Jyo saku ranking:Musashi province.
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saki)This sword belongs to Jyojyo saki
The blade was polished.
Habaki: gold foiled single habaki.
Blade length : 40.1cm or 15.78 inches.
Sori : 1.2cm or 0.47 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.19cm or 1.25 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.56cm or 1.00 inches.
Kasane : 0.77 cm or 0.30 inches.
Era : Late Edo period. Kaei 7th or Ansei first year.1854.
Shape : The blade is wide and thick Syobu zukuri style healthy blade.
Jitetsu :Itame had well grained with jinie attach.
Hamon : From Hamachi area, nioideki gunome midare Togari gunome
from the monouchi area, niedeki gunome midair and torero boshi and turns back sharply.
Special feature :First generation Cyounsai Tsunatoshi oas a younger brother of the Tsunahide.
He was born Kansei 10th at Uzen province and worked for Yonezawa family
and called Kato Hachiro. He was third son of the Kato Izumi Kami Kunihide sword maker.
He and his old brother Tsunahide moved to Edo and studied from Suishinshi Masahide
and mastered Doranba hamon and also bizen den.
Especially Tsunahide mastered Doranba hamon perfectly from his master.
Also Tsunatoshi mastered Doranba but he likes to make Bizenden style mainly.
He traveled to Kyusyu and made wide and healthy swords
at that place probably he was influenced from sword makers in Kyusyu like Motohita, Masayuki and so on.
He educated amny sword smiths Koyama Munetsugu, Takahashi Naganobi and Seiryuken Moritoshi.
At Ansei 3rd, he handed over his name to his son Koretoshi
and changed his name to Cyojyusai. At Bunkyu 2nd December 5th, he passed away age 66(1822)
While during his life he foster trust with his student of the Seiryuken Morotoshi.
His son studied from him.
This blade is wide and thick healthy Syobu zukuri style.
The Hamon is looks Kanemoto.
