Wakizashi

Wakizashi : Yasuchika/Meiji 2 nen Kinotomi Nen Haru Syogatsu.

Wakizashi in Shirasaya (NBTHK Hozon Token.)

Signature : Yasuchika.
Meiji 2 nen Kinotomi Nen Haru Syogatsu.

The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gold and silver foiled double habaki.
Blade length : 36.3 cm or 14.29 inches.
Sori : 0.5 cm or 0.19 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.16 cm or 1.24 inches.
Kasane : 0.6 cm or 0.23 inches.
Era : Meiji 2nd year, 1869
Shape : The blade is wide and thick healthy blade like Tensyo era wakizashi style.
Jitetsu : Koitame had awol grained with jinie attach nice jigane.
Hamon : Niedeki gunome midair with thick nioikuchi and ash scatter and sunagashi and also long kinsuji work.

Special feature : Yasuchika's family was making Japanese gun at Totsuka area near Odawara.
At Bunkyu 3rd, he moved to Odawara in order to make Sosyu style Japanes eswords.
This sword is very similar with Suzuki Masao.
The blade is very healthy without Kizu and flow.
This sword was made at Meiji 2nd year which is nearest point of the issue of decree banning the wearing of swords.
So he was obliged to stop for making swords.

Historical background : Tokugawa shogunate was beaten and it became the Meiji government.
