Chouunsai Tsunatoshi has come out to Edo and has studied under Suishinshi Masahide, the most famous smith of that time. Right after, he has studied under Suzuki harukuni in Osaka and made swords in Kumamoto, Kyushu. Ansei 3rd year, he has given his name to his son Koretoshi and altered his signature as Chojyusai. Koyama Munetsugu, Takahashi Naganogu and Shouryuuken Moritoshi were some of many studentsstudied under Tsunatoshi. Especially, Seiuryuuken Moritoshi was very close student of him.Second generation Koretoshi has betake himself to Yamaguchi to study under Moritoshi. Tsunatoshi pass away in Bunkyuu 3rd year(1863).
This piece is typical Gonome mix with Choji hamon. The top part of the hamon is split in two parts. He makes similar pieces as his pupil Koyama Munetsugu but Munetsugu's pieces does not involve split hamon on the upper side with mixture hamon.
It is rare to see such piece made by both father and son Gassakuto(made sword with father and son). It is precious data.
