Katana in Shirasaya(NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper)

Signature : (Red signature) Rai Kunizane
Honami (Kao)(Mistutada)

Koto: Jyo saku: Yamashiro province.
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku Jyo saku and regular saku)
This mumei(Rai Kunizane) belongs to Saijyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gold foiled double Habaki.
Blade length : 70.6 cm or 27.79 inches.
Sori : 2.3 cm or 0.90 inches.
Mekugi :  1
Width at the hamachi : 3.14 cm or 1.23 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.05 cm or 0.80 inches.
Kasane : 0.71 cm or 0.27 inches.
Era : Nanbokucho period, around Bunna era(1352-1355)
Shape : Wide and thick Osuriage Mumei Katana with large Sori.
There is Bo-Hi on both side.
Jigane : Ko-Itame Hada well grained with Jinie attach.
There are fine Chikei and Utsuri.
Hamon : Nie Deki, Suguha base with soft Ashi.
In Ha, there are long Kinsuji and Yo. Boshi is Tarumi gokoro.

Special feature: He calls himself Rai Kunizane Fujigoro.
He is a son of Rai Kunitoshi and younger brother of Rai Kunimitsu.
His style looks like his father. The Jigane is nice Yamashiro Jigane.
The Hamon is Suguha base with thick Nioikuchi.
This blade is stately and elegant.
We think that this blade is comparable to NBTHK Juyo blade.
Generally, the Rai school's blades has rough texture and Kizu.
But this blade does not have it. The blade is healthy.
We recommend this blade very much.
