Tanto in Shirasaya(NBTHK Hozon paper)

Signature: Mumei (sengo school)

Sayagaki: Sengo Muramasa
The blade was polished.
habaki:gold foiled single habaki.
Blade length : 24.3cm or 9.57inches.
Sori : 0.2cm or 0.07 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.62cm or 1.03 inches.
Kasane : 0.52cm or 0.08 inches.
Era : Late Muromachi period.
Shape : The blade is wide and thick healthy shape.
Jitetsu :Itame hada well grained with jinie attach blackish hadatachi jigane.
and visible to see the texture well.
On the hamachi area, there is some lose had but not serious.
Hamon : Niedeki gunome midair and hako(box style) midair
and almost same hamon both omote side and Ura side.(front and back side) Boshi is Jizo style.

Special feature : The head of sword maker in Sengo school in Kuwana province was Muramasa.
His students Masashige and Masazane are also well known sword makers introduced his tecuenique.
Muramasa was welcomed by Daimyo with a sense of aversion Tokugawa family.
The Tokugawa family had Muramasa in extreme detestation because of
receiving fatal damages for Tokugawa family.
His hamon which is the same hamon both sides
and blackish strong feeling Jigane are typical Muramasa and welcomed by sword collectors.
When I saw the Tanto I judged instantly Muramasa but the signature was Mumei.
Even right now I think the blade is Muramasa but NBTHK judged as Sengo to a growing extent.
