Tanto:Mumei attributed as Shinkei Tanemitsu.

Tanto in Shirasaya with Koshirae (NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature: mumei (unsigned) attributed as Shinkei Tanemitsu.

The blade was polished.
Habaki : Silver foiled single Habaki.
Blade length : 21.4 cm or 8.42 inches.
Sori : 0 cm or 0 inches.
Mekugi:1
Width at the hamachi : 2.32 cm or 0.91 inches.
Kasane : 0.57 cm or 0.22 inches.
Era : Late Edo period.
Shape : Kanmuri otoshi style which is rather wide and thick.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with jinie attach and chikei work.
It is easy to see the texture.
Hamon : Niedeki suguha with thick nioikuchi.
In Ha, double hamon and ash work.
Boshi is round shaped.

Special feature : Shinkei Tanemitsu was called Sudo Eikichi and born Tenpo 3rd Shimodate province Ibaragi
prefecture.He studied from Naotane and got the name Tane from his master.
Generally he made swords wide and thick with long kissaki gorgeous sword.
At Meiji 4th, he had to stop making swords due to the Haitorei (decree banning the wearing of swords).
So he couldn't make many swords even if his wonderful skill.
The blade is healthy without kizu and flow.

Saya : Kawarinuri saya looks like cherry tree's bark.
Menuki : On the shakudo, a bird is engraved.
Kozuka : On the shibuichi plate, peony flowers are engraved.
Wari Kogai: On the shakudo plate, some plants are engraved.
