Wakizashi in Shirasaya with Koshirae(NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature : Bishu Osafune Katsumitsu
Meiwa 2nd year August(1493)

Sue-Koto: Jyosaku: Owazamono
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saki)This sword belongs to Jyosaku ranking.

The blade was polished.
Habaki : gold foiled single habaki.
Blade length : 53.94cm or 21.24inches.
Sori : 1.52cm or 0.6 inches.
Mekugi :  2
Width at the hamachi :2.69cm or 1.06inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.83cm or 0.72inches.
Kasane : 0.66cm or 0.26inches.
Era : Muromachi Period Circa Meio(1492-1501)
Shape: There is much machiokuri and signature. There is some
Jitetsu: Koitame hada with mixture of Komokume hada.
There is beautiful jigane and clear utsuri.
Hamon: Konie deki with much suguha and koashi attached.
Boshi is round and sharp end and deep.

Special feature : The founder of  Bisyu Osafune Katsumitsu started
Ouei era to Eisyo. We can say that This blade is first generation
because of the Uramei.
At that period, uncountable swords are made because of the war.
This blade is said as Siiremei (mass productive items) but this sword is quite nice Jignane
and vivid Hamon which we can say the blade is not mass productive item.
Probable Ukyo no sin Kartsumitsu made this sword.
Especially the Jigane is marvelous.

Koshriae:
Tsuba: Iron Tsuba.
Menuki: Dragon is engraved with gold color.
Other fittings: Shakudo.
Saya: brown color.
Kozuka and Kogatana

Historical Background: On Meio 2nd Year July 25th,
a big earthquake hit the whole Tokaido area. 
The Hamana lake become part of the open sea
in the aftermath of the earthquake Tsunami.
