This Izumo Daijyo Yoshitake belongs to Saijyo saku ranking.

The blade was polished.
Habaki : Copper plate single habaki
Blade length : 33.0 cm or 12.99 inches.
Sori : 0.7 cm or 0.27 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 3.33 cm or 1.31 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.69 cm or 1.05 inches.
Kasane : 0.69 cm or 0.27 inches.
Era : Edo period Circa Tenna(1681-1683)
Shape : It is wide and thick solid sunnobi tanto
Jitetsu : Koitame hada with mixture of mokume hada. Jinie is attached and “moist” and clear jigane.
Hamon : Nie deki associated with deep nioiguchi gunome midare. Ashi is well attached.
In the ha there is kinsuji and Tobiyaki work appearing. Boshi is midarekomi(mixed up) in complex style.

Special feature : Izumo Daijyo Myo Yoshitake is the son of Horikawa Kunitake and was called Kawate Ichitayu.
He moved from Kyoto to Edo and studied fro mHorikawa school.
His work is similar to Dewa daijyo Kunimichi and Hojyoji Masahiro.
The Jigane has much clear hada and bold but elegant Kunihiro work.
This work is broad and thick Kasane healthy work. It is excellent jigane and so as the hamon. It is top class work.

Historical background : 1681 The era of the Tokugawa Tunayoshi. Tenna fire work.
There were over 3500 victims of big fire of Tenna.
A vegetable sword owner Hachibee has moved to Enjyoji of Hongo.
A 16years old daughter of Hachibee has fell in love with the page of that temple.
Oshichi left the temple after the new home was rebuilt but she set fire to the new home so she could meet the page again.Oshichi was then executed by burning by steak.
The big fire of Tenna is also known as the incident of Oshichi.

Tsuba : Iron plate hamidashi tsuba. Flower design is engraved and inlaid with gold and silver.
Fuchikashira : Iron plate
Saya : red nuri saya
Kozuka : Iron plate with tree and nuts design and butterfly engraved.
