Wakizashi : Kanesada (Aizu, 10generation)

Wakizashi in Shirasaya(NBTHK Hozon paper)

Signature : Kanesada (Aizu, 10generation)

The blade was polished.
Blade length : 39.6 cm or 15.59 inches.
Sori : 1.1 cm or 0.43 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.12 cm or 1.22 inches.
Kasane : 0.70 cm or 0.27 inches.
Era : Late Edo period.
Shape : Wide, thick and heavy blade. Katakiri-Sunnobi style Wakizashi.
There is Futasuji-Hi and Bo-Hi.
Jitetsu : Ko-Itame Hada well grained with Jinie attached. Jigane is Beautiful.
Hamon : Nie Deki, from Hamachiis Suguha base, and then Gunome Midare.
Around Monouchi part Hamon is active. In Ha, there are many Sunagashi and Kinsuji.

Special feature : Kanesada started from Muromachi period around Eisho era.
2nd generation of Kanesada is Kanesada's most famous sword smith.
This school continued to the end of Edo period.
11th and 12th generation of Kanesada are attend on Aizu Han.
Hijikata Toshizo(He was the vice commander of Shinsengumi) has Kanesada's sword.
This blade was attribute as 10th generation of Kanesada by NBTHK.
But we think that this is 11th generation of Kanesada.
The 11th generation of Kanesada has unique cutting signature.
This Wakizashi is rare piece as Katakiriba style.
