Katana: Sakai Ikkansai Shigemasa

Katana in Shirasaya Mukansa sword smith. Guarantee NBTHK Hozon paper.
Signature : oite To-to Sakai Ikkansai Shigemasa Seitan.
Ko-ki 2629Nen Mi Tori 1 Gatsu hi.(1969 January)

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku Jyo saku and regular saku)
This sword Sakai Ikkansai Shigemasa belongs to Jyo saku ranking.

The blade was polished by good polisher.
Habaki :Gold foiled single habaki.
Blade length : 73.5cm or inches.
Sori : 2.0 cm or 0.78 inches.
Mekugi :  1
Width at the hamachi : 3.23cm or 1.27 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.4cm or 0.94 inches.
Kasane : 0.57 cm or 0.22 inches.
Era : Showa (Modern)
Shape : The blade is rather wide and thick with bo-hi on both sides of the blade. Deep sori is making the blade looking nice shape.

Jigane : Koitame-hada well grained with Jinie attach and also Chikei work.
Hamon : Niedeki Gunome Midare with a lot of Sunagashi and Kinsuji work.
Boshi is Midarekomi style.

Special feature : Sakai Ikkansai Shigemasa was born at Otowa city in Shizuoka prefecture as 3rd son of the Yasujiro Sakai.
At Taisho 10th (1921), he moved to Tokyo to study under the Kasama Ikkansai Shigetsugu when he was 16 years old. At Showa 8th(1935), he worked as Sakite of the Yasuhiro Miyaguchi at the Yasukuni Tanrenjyo.
At Showa 11th, he retired from the Yasukuni Tanrenjyo and moved to Ookura Tanrenjyo. At Showa 19th, he got the title 'navy Jyomyo Tosyo'.
After WWII, He made many swords and got a lot of prizes from NBTHK shinsa.
At Showa 56(1981), He got the title 'Mukansa' as top ranking sword smith.
This blade is very good work and nice Jigane with a lot of Sunagashi, Kinsuji.
