Wakizashi: Kiyomitsu (Ecchu Shinto)

Wakizashi in Shirasaya with Koshirae(NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature : Kiyomitsu (Ecchu Shinto)

Shinto: Jyosaku: Wazamono: Ecchu
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saku)
The blade was polished.
Habaki: Copper Single Plate
Blade length : 52.7cm or 20.74inches.
Sori : 1.4cm or 0.55inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.01cm or 1.19inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.22cm or 0.87inches.
Kasane : 0.6cm or 0.24inches.
Era : Edo period Circa Kanbun
Shape : It is regular width and thickness long Wakizashi.
Jitetsu : Itame Hada well grained with Jinie attached.
There is fine Chikei works appearing.
Hamon : Nie Deki Suguha with Notare mix. There is mix of Koashi and Nijyuba

Special feature : Kiyomitsu was a sword smith group active during Kaga and Ecchu province.
This work is most likely made by Ecchu Kiyomitsu and has been named Harima Daijyo.
Ecchu Kiyomitsu was one of the top sword smiths of Suguha Hamon. At first glance, this sword looks
as if it is made by Magouemon of Muromachi Period.
It is a sword with much activities.

Historical background: Date Sodo (feud) occured in Kanbun 11th year.
Date Nawamune, the 3rd generation of Sendai federal lord, has been warned by
his uncle Date Munekatsu for indulging in pleasure but he did not settle but instead
triggered the feud.

Koshirae :
Tsuba : Round shape iron tsuba with some kind of plant engraved
on the plate and rope pattern curved around the rim.
Fuchikashira : Iron plate with flower desing engraved.
Saya : Black Roiro saya.
Menuki : Shakudo plate with bamboo design engraved and inlaid with gold.
