Wakizashi : Shimosaka

Wakizashi in Koshirae

Signature : Shimosaka.
The blade was polished.
Blade length : 52.2cm or 20.5inches.
Sori : 1.4cm or 0.55inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.86cm or 1.12inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.95cm or 0.76inches.
Kasane : 0.65cm or 0.25inches.
Weight of only blade : around
Weight of blade and Tsuka and Tsuba (without Saya) : around
Era : Edo period.
Shape : It is regular size width and sori. The kissaki is long.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with jinie attached, The hada is well seen.
Hamon : Konie base with mixture of kogunome. There are mixture of togariba as well.
Inside the ha there are thin sunagashi seen. The boshi is brushed up style.

Special feature : The signature is written Shimosaka but it is doubtable. This piece has the hamon of Mino smith with some togariba mix.
From those observation we estimate that it is Sueseki.

Koshirae :
Tsuba : On the oval shape tetsutsuba, there are some delicate patterns engraved. The design seems to be a dragon.
There are some kizami (engraved) on the mimi.
Fuchikashira : Dark brown color inrou kizami saya.
Saya : Dark brown Inrou Kizami saya.
Menuki : Black shakudou base with chrysanth design engraved with other parts inlayed in gold.
