Yari : Do Tanuki Hyoubu

Yari in Shirasaya, with Koshirae. (Guarantee : NBTHK Hozon paper.)

Signature : Do Tanuki Hyoubu.

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saku.
This Do Tanuki Hyoubu belongs to Jyo saku ranking.)

The blade was polished
Blade length : 30.30 cm or 11.81 inches.
Sori : No Sori
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.99 cm or 1.17 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.82 cm or 1.11 inches.
Kasane : 0.76 cm or 0.29 inches.
Era : Late Muromachi Period
Shape : It is Sankaku Yari with Yokote on the Kissaki.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with jinie attached. It is clear hada pattern.
Hamon : Nie Deki with deep nioiguchi.
It is suguha style with mixture of gunome midare and Ashi attached.

Special feature : Dotanuki is the name of a swordsmith School prospered in Higo province, present Kumamoto pref.
In Kyushu Island. It is said that the School descended from the Euju School.
Swordsmith of this school worked for a famous military commander Kato Kiyomasa in the Ko-to period.
Masakuni and Kiyomasa were two famous swordsmiths in this period.
They forged many swords including spears and naginatas appropreate for actual warfare.
Kozukenosuke, Hyoubu, and Jihei are well known sword makers in Do taniki school.
The sword became well known sword makers because of TV programs and movie which is called Kozure ookami.
