Katana: Mumei (Mihara Masanobu)

Katana in Shirasaya, with Koshirae (NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature: Mumei (Mihara Masanobu)

The blade was polished.
Habaki; Gold double foiled habaki
Blade length : 69.2cm or 27.24 inches.
Sori : 1.5cm or 0.59 inches.
Mekugi: 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.94 cm or 1.15 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.17cm or 0.85 inches.
Kasane : 0.74cm or 0.29 inches.
Era : Nanbokucho period.
Shape : It is O-suriage mumei sword. There is bohi engraved
and both side of the katana. It is rather wide long kissaki
nice shape katana.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with clear hada patterns.
There are some rough parts in the ha. Fog like utsuri could be observed.
Hamon : Nie structure with deep nioiguchi. Double ha
and soft Ashi could also be observed. The boushi is round and hakikake brush up style.

Special feature : MIhara Masanobu is a sword smith from Mihara school
which was successful during Nanbokucho period.
He was successful during Eiwa period(1375-1379).
This peice has some rough parts however there is deep nioiguchi
and most of all the shape is excellent.

Koshirae :
Tsuba :Shakudou plate with shi-shi dog and peony engraved and inlayed with gold
Fuchikashira : Shakudo nanakoji plate with peacock
and plum flower designa engraved and inlayed with gold.
Saya : Black roiro saya with family crest engraved and inlayed with gold powder(Makie style).
Menuki : Crane design is engraved nad inlayed with gold.
Kogai; Shakudo nanakoji plated with flower design engraved and inlayed with gold.
