Katana in Shirasaya, with Koshirae(NBTHK Hozon paper)

Signature : Mumei (Shikkake)

Sayagaki: Yamato koku Shikkake, Nanbokucho period.
Blade length is 66cm. by Dr. Kanzan in March 1972

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saku)
This Mumei(Shikkake) belongs to jyojyosaku ranking.

The blade was polished
Habaki : Gold single foiled habaki
Blade length : 66.66cm or 26.24inches.
Sori : 1.5cm or 0.59inches.
Mekugi : 4
Width at the hamachi : 2.82cm or 1.11inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.07cm or 0.81inches.
Kasane : 0.69cm or 0.27 inches.
Era : Nanbokucho Period
Shape : It is Osuriage mumei sword with regular width and thickness.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with jinie attached.
Hamon : Nie deki suguha with mixture of gunome midare.
Sunagashi activities are appearing. Boshi is nijyuba brush up style.

Special feature : Shikkake is one of the 5 Yamato school sword smith
groups including Hosho, Taima, Senjyuin and Tegai.
There are only few Zaimei works of them because, they focussed on making work for the monks.
This work is typical work of Shikkake. The JIagne work is excellent
Shinogi-ji area shows well the traits of the hada(mixture of Itame and masame) .

Koshirae :
Tsuba :Round shape iron openwork tsuba.
Fuchikashira : Shakudo plate with dragonfly design engraved and inlaid with gold.
Saya : Black roiro saya with family crest engraved and inlaid with gold.
Menuki : Shakudo plate with dragonfly design engraved.

Historical background: Sanyo Shinkansen started operation on March 15th 1972 (Showa 47th year).
