Signature : Oite Efu Kato Chounsai Tsunatoshi zo
Kaei 6 sai 8 gatsu Kichijitsu (August 1853)

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saki)This sword belongs to Jyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gold foiled single habaki.
Blade length : 70.75 cm or 27.85 inches.
Sori : 2.19cm or 0.86 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.83cm or 1.11 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.20 cm or 0.86 inches.
Kasane : 0.65 cm or 0.25 inches.
Era : Edo period around Kaei era(1863)
Shape : Regular size Katana with deep Sori. Kissaki is long.
The dragon and plum blossom are engraved on the blade.
Jitetsu: Ko-Itame hada well grained with Jinie attach.
Hamon: Nioi Deki fu, Choji Midare and Gunome Midare mixed.
Kissaki is Notare round shape.

Special feature :Chounsai Tsunatoshi the First forged this wakizashi.
Born Kato Hachiro in Dewa province, present Yamagata pref.
as the Third son of Izumi (No) Kami Kunihide in 1798, learned under
Suishinshi Masahide. Kato Tsunahide, known as its excellent Toran-ba hamon
was Tsunatoshi's elder brother. Tsunehide moved to Osaka from Edo
and learned under Suzuki Harukuni. After that Tsunahide went to Kyushu Island
and forged sword at Kumamoto. Around 1823, he lived a house
of the Uesugi family at Azabu in Edo.
He passed away in 1863, aged 66.
Tsunatoshi's excellent pupils, from his nephew Ishido Korekazu the seventh down,
Koyama Munetsugu, Takahashi Naganobu, Seiryuken Moritoshi
and others formed an influential school in that period that outstripped
the Suishinshi school in the sphere of Bizen-den.
