Sunnobi-Tanto: Mumei (Uda Kunimune)

Sunnobi-Tanto in Shirasaya (NBTHK Hozon paper)

Signature : Mumei (Uda Kunimune)

The blade was polished.
habaki:gold foiled single habaki.
Blade length : 31.2cm or 12.28 inches.
Sori : 0.3 cm or 0.11 inches.
Mekugi : 3
Width at the hamachi : 2.96 cm or 1.16 inches.
Kasane : 0.61cm or 0.24 inches.
Era : Early Muromachi. period.
Shape : The blade is wide and thick healthy blade.
In the front, bo-hi is engraved and on the back,
gomabashi is engraved.
Jitetsu :Itame had well grained and Oo-iteme hada mixed
with jinie attach and chikei work.
Hamon : Niedeki suguha and noter with thick nioikuchi.
In Hamon, there are many Sunagashi and kinsuji work.

Special feature : Before the sword had Norishige on the Nakago
but some judge said the blade is not Nirishige so the owner
removed the signature and made shins at NBTHK and got
the paper as Uda Kunimune. The first generation
Uda Kunimune started from Nanbokucyo period
and continued several generation.
I think the blade was made around early Muromachi Ouei era.
Uda Kunimune and Norishige are almost same Jigane and Hamon.
Anyway the blade is typical sosyu school special feature
which remind us Norishige. The blade is nice Ooitame had
and well grained thick nioikuchi hamon and also sunagashi and kinsuji.
The price is quite reasonable so we recommend this sword for you.
