Keian 5 Nen Nigatsu hi (February, 1652)

The blade was polished.
Blade length : 25.15 cm or 9.9 inches.
Sori : 3.03 cm or 1.19 inches.
Mekugi : 3
Width at the hamachi : 2.56 cm or 1 inches.
Kasane : 0.5 cm or 0.1 inches.
Era : Nanbokucyo period.
Shape : There are bo-hi engraved at both side of the tanto.
Jitetsu : Koitame had with mixture of komokume hada.
The had steel is clear and jinie is well attached.
Chikei spots are seen too.
Hamon : Konie structure gunome midare temperline.
There are some fading parts in the hamon(shimi).

Special feature : Bishu Osafune Nariie is a grandchild of the Kagehide and a child of Ane Shigeyoshi. They were well known as Kozori Bizen school.
It is very rare to see clear front and back signature.
This tanto nakago is in striking good condition and is valuable historically for being kept in Myoji Ito's (a governor through Meiji, Taisho, Showa period) possessions.

Historical Background : At Ounen 2nd year Kusunoki Masanori, the military general at the time, has surrendered to the Shogunate.
