Wakizashi

Wakizashi : Echizen Kuni Shimosaka.

Wakizashi in Shirasaya (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Paper)

Signature : Echizen Kuni Shimosaka.

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku Jyo saku and regular saku)
This Echizen Kuni Shimosaka belongs to Jyo saku ranking.

The blade was polished.
Habaki : Silver and copper double habaki.
Blade length : 32.8 cm or 12.91 inches.
Sori : 0.2 cm or 0.07 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.78 cm or 1.09 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.37 cm or 0.93 inches.
Kasane : 0.57 cm or 0.22 inches.
Era : Early Edo period.
Shape : The blade is rather wide and thick and engraved Bo-hi on both sides of the blade.
Jitetsu : Itame had and mokume had mixed with jinie attach and
chikei work.
10 cm from the hamachi area, there are some oohed appear but not so bad.
Hamon : Niedeki suguha based with thick nioikuchi double hamon and active sosyu style hamon.

Special feature : Echizen Kuni Shimosaka was a group of sword maker in Echizen province at late Muromachi to early Edo period.
The head master was reported as Yasutsugu first generation.
There are several sword makers nemed Echizen Shimosaka.
This sword looks like first generation Yasutsugu because of quality of active blade which consist of Kinsuji and sunagashi.
I think this blade is really active sosyu style hamon and also nice well grained texture.
