Wakizashi in Koshirae

Signature : Mumei (Shitahara School)

Shinto: Musashi
The blade was polished.
Blade length : 58.7cm or 23.11inches.
Sori : 1.85cm or 0.73 inches.
Mekugi:2
Width at the hamachi : 2.6cm or 1.02inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.85cm or 0.73inches.
Kasane : 0.59cm or 0.23inches.
Era : Edo Kanbun period.
Shape : It is regular size width and thickness.
The shallow curve is one of the characteristic of Kanbun Shinto shape.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained. It is well forged jigane and the hada is clear.
Hamon : NIebase suguha. It is dark and it is shape damon.
Reminds of Doutanuki(It is a sword smith group active at Kushu Higo province.)

Special feature : Shimohara school does not have a flamboyant look
but it is much function oriented.
It stressen the sharpness. This piece is no exception in that it has no brightness.
It seems very sharp looking.

Koshirae :
Tsuba : Round shape and rather thick tsuna with man and landscape engraved.
Fuchikashira : Shakudou base with a design of dragonfly engraved.
Saya : Kawari Nuri Saya
Menuki : The design seems like God Fuse and rice bag with inlay of gold.
