The blackish Echizen iron. Ko-Nie base, Ko-Gunome Midare Hamon.
This is typical Yasutsugu blade. Length 69.69cm.

This Edo Echizen Yasutsugu(first generation) belongs to Jyojyosaku ranking.
The blade was polished

Sori : 1.5 cm or 0.59 inches.
Mekugi : 3
Width at the hamachi : 3.05 cm or 1.20 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.25 cm or 0.88 inches.
Kasane : 0.65 cm or 0.25 inches.
Era : Early Edo Keicyo era.
Shape : It is wide and thick solid shape. Kissaki is long that resembles Keicho shinto work.
IT is nice shape katana. There is bonji and gomabashi engraved on front and suken on the back.
Jitetsu :Itame hada well grained with jinie attached. It is work with Nanbantetsu.
Hamon : Nie deki kogunome midare with ashi attached. Sunagashi and kinsuji work is active.
Boshi is round turnback. Ashi is well attached. Active Kinsuji and sunagashi work appearing in the ha.
Special feature : The first generation Yasutugu was admitted as sword maker of
Tokugawa shogun and was permitted to engrave Tokugawa family’s crest on the sword nakago.
So Yasutsugu sword makers from first generation to Late Edo period, they engraved
Tokugawa family’s Aoi crest on the sword nakago.
They are known as Tokugawa shogun’ honored sword makers.
