Tanto: Kunitsugu(Province Unknown, late Muromachi period)

Tanto in Shirasaya(NBTHK Hozon paper)

Signature :Kunitsugu(Province Unknown, late Muromachi period)

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saku)
This Kunitsugu belongs to Jyojyosaku ranking.

The blade was polished.
Habaki: Gold Single Foiled habaki
Blade length : 21.6cm or 8.50 inches.
Sori : 0cm or 0 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.93cm or 1.15 inches.
Kasane : 0.55cm or 0.21 inches.
Era : Muromachi period Circa Meio(1492-1501).
Shape : Regular width and thickness nice shape tanto.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with jinie attached. It is clear
jigane. There is Bon-Ji appearing in a part.
Hamon : Nie deki with deep nioiguchi. Funome midare with soft habuchi. Boshi is round turn back.

Special feature : At a glance it seems to be a work of Soshuden. The hamon is hitatsura-ish and the nioiguchi is deep. There are many smithes signing Kunitsugu but because there are many smithes it is difficult to distinguish which Kunitsugu.
From the work, it is deep nioiguchi Soshuden work. It is Hitatsura style work that reminds of Soshu Masahiro.
