Ansei 4th Year February Tomonari Gojyuhachi dai no mago

The blade was polished.
Habaki: Silver Single Foiled Habaki.
Blade length : 39.2cm or 15.43inches.
Sori : 1.3cm or 0.51inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.1cm or 1.22inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.28cm or 0.9inches.
Kasane : 0.73cm or 0.29inches.
Era : Lte Edo period Ansei 4th Year(1857)
Shape : It is wide and thick nice jigane.
Jitetsu :Koitame hada well grained with jinie attached. It is clear jigane.
Hamon : Nie structure that starts from suguha at the hamachi
It is choji midare with soft nioiguchi.
Ashi is softly attached. Boushi is round end.

Special feature : First generation Sukenaga's brother has been adopted
by Sukesada family therefore Sukenaga derived his father's carrer. Moreover,
Yokoyama Sukekane becomes an adopted son of Yokoyama Sukemori
and eventually has learned forging skills from Sukenaga. Frist generation
Yokoyama Kaga Suke Sukenaga has engraved the signature Tomonari Gojyu roku Dai Mago
which means that he is the 58th generation of Yokoyama Sukekane.
The hamon is unique Sukenaga nioi structure choji midare sword.
Sukekane has made similar style hamon through his life.
This unique choji midare has been adored by many sword fans.
Nowadays, there is very few healthy Yokoyama school choji midare piece
with no kizu or flaw in the market.

Historical background: At Ansei 4th year October 21st. Townsend Harris
have an audience with Tokugawa Iesada and has delivered credentials.
This is when the frame of Japan-US Trade Treaty was finished.

Koshirae :
Tsuba : Round shape iron tsuba with bamboo design engraved in open works
Fuchikashira :Shakudo muji style.
Saya : Lampet shell sparkles
Menuki : Shakudo plate with pine tree design engraved and inlayed with gold.
Kozuka : On shinchu plate tree and bird design is engraved and inlayed with gold.
Kogatana: Mumei
