Wakizashi : Doshu Ju Hidemasa Saku

Wakizashi in Shirasaya(NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper)

Signature : Doshu Ju Hidemasa Saku(Circa Genji)

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saku)
This Doshu Jyu Hidekata belongs to Jyojyosaku ranking.

The blade was polished.
Blade length : 51.82cm or 20.4inches.
Sori : 0.67cm or 0.26inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.23cm or 1.27inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.31cm or 0.91inches.
Kasane : 0.83cm or 0.33inches.
Era : Late Edo period 1864-1865.
Shape : It is wide(3.23cm) and thick katana. The sori is deep and kissaki is long end.
It is magnificent wakizashi.
Jitetsu : Koitame hada well grained with jinie attached. It is clear and seamless jigane.
Hamon : Nioideki with deep nioiguchi. Ashi could be observed inside the Chu-suguha hamon. The hamon is similar to the morning gof habuci. Boshi is turn back style ,

Special feature : Doshu Ju Hidemasa is the student of Sa Yukihide. Because he has been making swords of his mentor, there is only few of his works remaining.
His original work is no different to that of his teacher's. The jigane is just like Awataguchi school work. The deep niouchi and habuchi brings up the morning mist.
You can also see the Gassaku of his mentor.
This sword is just like Sa Yukihide work and it is Dai kissaki flawless work.

Historical background: Genji 1st year June 5th Ikedaya incident.
